Editorial Reviews:

Even more thrilling than The Simpsons' annual "Treehouse of Horror" episodes are those in which Bart is pitted against his mortal enemy, Sideshow Bob. The two classic episodes on this video, "Black Widower" and "Cape Feare," are killer. Kelsey Grammer is in fine voice as Krusty the Clown's maniacal former sidekick, whose evil plans are invariably foiled by Bart, a "little boy who never lost his mistrust." Beware, Aunt Selma. The next episode you watch of your beloved MacGyver may be your last! In "Black Widower," Bart must convince clueless Chief Wiggum and his family that Selma's new husband, Sideshow Bob, intends to murder her. Classic moment: Homer's ode to cocktail weenies: "They taste as good as they look. And they come in this delicious red sauce. It looks like ketchup--it tastes like ketchup. But brother, it ain't ketchup!" In "Cape Feare," someone is sending Bart anonymous death threats. "But who'd want to hurt me?" Bart protests. "I'm this century's Dennis the Menace." Sideshow Bob, that's who. He's been paroled and vows revenge on "the spirited little scamp who ... sent me to this dank, urine-soaked hellhole." A new identity and a new houseboat cannot keep Sideshow Bob from the Simpsons--make that the Thompsons, thanks to the Witness Protection Program--door. Bart again prevails with, as Homer describes it, "a plan fiendishly clever in its in-trick-asies." --Donald Liebenson

5 out of 5 stars The very best of Sideshow Bob   July 2, 2001

You don't really expect me to start writing generally about the Simpsons, do you? Because there's really no point to it. The Simpsons is simply the best TV comedy of all times, period. To explain why would take much, much more than a 1000 words. And this particular tape contains two of the funniest Simpsons episodes ever, both of them featuring Kelsey Grammer as the manic Sideshow Bob. I am not really a fan of 'Frasier', but Grammer IS a great actor, and prsonally I think that Sideshow Bob is his best character.

Although 'Krusty Gets Busted', the episode that introduced Bob, is missing, Bob's two funniest appearences are here. 'Black Widower', a truly unforgettable episode from the show's 3rd season, is incredibly funny, especially the last five minutes. Even funnier is 'Cape Feare' from season 5, revolving around Bob's attempts to kill Bart Simpson, and featuring brilliant parodies on classic horror films like 'Cape Fear' and 'Psycho'. Both are exceptionally good episodes from an excepitol(d'oh!)ly good series.

5 out of 5 stars the greatest show ever?   April 19, 2001

Nobody can put into words how great the simpsons are. These two episodes are no different. Both of these feature one of my favorite characters, sideshow bob. Black Widower is when he marries bart's aunt and has one of the funniest endings and Cape Feare is one of the best episodes ever. Vere funny. For example bart distracts bob by making him sing the entire score of the hms pinafore as his final request also when they enter the wittness protection there is one of the funniest scenes ever as the police try to explain to homer that his name will be mr. thompson from now on. I had to stop the tape i was laughing so hard. This tape is a must like every simpson tape.
